Black women in the United States are nearly three times more likely than white women to die from a pregnancy-related cause. To tackle this and other health disparities, students at Penn's Perelman School of Medicine have partnered with startup companies focused on the social determinants of health. The goal is to use the problem-solving strategies of the tech world to bring rapid and intentional change to maternal health, food insecurity and more. “People learn by doing and sharing stories," says Whitney Robinson, founder of startup _therenee. "The greatest impact of this application is to show that building support may not be as hard as we think. Maybe it’s closer than we think.” Link in bio for the full story. #healthequity #healthdisparity #maternalhealth #foodinsecurity #healthtech #socialdeterminantsofhealth
