"The hard stuff in life is really the good stuff in life." 30-year-old brain cancer survivor Chris Baccash knows this much to be true. Prior to his 2019 diagnosis, Chris was an avid cyclist and business analytics manager. When he received the news of his illness, Chris realized this “imposed pause” in his life could present some new opportunities.
He quit his corporate job and enrolled in grad school uofpenn, pursuing a Master of Applied Positive Psychology, centered on the science of well-being. Chris still wanted to participate in elite cycling races, but decided to prioritize enjoying the experience of racing, rather than winning.
“By seeking out hard things together — and it doesn’t have to be a catastrophe like brain cancer, it can be a race, or a project, just something difficult to rally around — we get to see the goodness in one another."
