Thousands may have been pounding the Broad Street pavement for ibxrun10 yesterday, but our bone marrow transplant and hemotology oncology team hosted their very own Broad Street Run at HUP! It began when patient and avid runner Joan Elsasser confided in registered nurse Killeen Murphy that she was bummed about missing the race this year.
Killeen went home that night, made some posters and decided to host the run Penn Medicine-style on the unit floor. Another patient Gary Miller saw the signs and decided to join in. Determined to log their 10 miles, the patients completed a total of 170 laps around the unit, stopping at "wooder" stations to stay hydrated.
We're so inspired by their tenacity and so grateful to have nurses like Killeen on our team. 👟🏅
