Oklahoma has nearly 50 species of snake that all play an important role in our ecosystem (dramatic as some may be). The main prey items for the eastern hog-nosed snake are frogs and toads. These amphibians will sometimes puff up, making it harder for the hog-nosed to swallow, but the large rear-facing fangs of the snake will deflate the amphibian’s lungs and body.
