When it comes to favorite women’s sports to watch and follow, the US looks totally different from the rest of the world. In the States, basketball is the top women’s sport (with 56% of US fans of women’s sports tuning in); in the UK where I played for the London Lions, only 10% of fans of women’s sports say they watch it. Unsurprisingly, women’s soccer is top with 61% of UK respondents saying they tune in.
Across all responses, 28% of women’s sports fans say they’re watching more women’s sports this year than last year. From UK responders, 36% say they’re watching more. I can imagine many will start watching and continue to watch more women’s basketball after we won the Eurocup championship in London! I’m excited to see the growth!
This is a new joint survey conducted by Parity and SurveyMonkey. One of the largest international studies of fandom in women’s sports conducted to date, based on over 14,000 responses in 7 countries (US, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain).
