#ThrowbackThursday to 1949! This photograph shows the actual maintenance shop in the Memorial Union before it became the iconic entertainment venue it is today. As the 1970s dawned, “Model T” and “Old Maintenance Shop” were tossed around as potential names for the new venue. 24 years later, @isusub selected “the Maintenance Shop” as the official name during a meeting on Oct. 17, 1973, according to a chronology of the early history of the venue assembled by Larry D. Grant, a 1974 ISU alum who was a member of the Student Union Board.
