Throughout her life, 79-year-old Alice Boswell faced many hurdles. But Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a genetic condition that affects the connective tissue in the body, was one of the toughest. The condition made it difficult for Alice to move and meant she needed several surgeries over the years. In spite of her disease, Alice’s determination made it possible for her to care for her two sons and live her life. When the disease affected her left hand, curling it into a permanent fist, her primary care physician referred her to Dr. John Foley, a hand surgeon at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. He replaced her knuckle joints and realigned her tendons. The surgery went so well, she decided to have the procedure on her other hand.
