Sarah Moummi and Sara Shaner, both high school and collegiate athletes, never expected to be sidelined by hip pain when they were young. But, over time, both women experienced increasingly intense and persistent pain and both ended up being diagnosed with a condition called femoroacetabular impingement or FAI. When physical therapy was no longer providing relief, Sarah and Sara went to see Dr. William Postma, chief of sports medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He performed hip arthroscopy on both young women, and they’re once again enjoying their active lifestyles.
