An Earth Day themed memory: toyboi_713 took me to Catawba Falls for the first time in 2016. We only made it to the lower falls because we had a big group and, having never seen it before, we were all so distracted by how overwhelming the beginning was we ran out of time to go to the top. It was like wrangling cats who were trying to be influencers. Frustrated that he didn’t get to show me the upper falls ( the whole reason he brought me there ) on the hike out Mark said, “When I finally get you up there- you’ll tell me I was right and you’ll understand why I’m so mad.” One year later (2017) - still pissed at me and committed to proving himself correct - we went back with a demand for the top and damn if it wasn’t straight up magical. I’ve seen probably hundreds of waterfalls since and there just really is something special about this one. It so far reigns supreme despite me actively hunting for a worthy challenger.
