Torrey Pines // 2019
On my last trip to California- my family had a T6i with a basic kit lens still in the box, they asked me to show them what it could do. Immediately self conscious about my lack of actual photography skills- I said I’d take it on a day-trip and see what I could remember. When I showed my family the results, my step-father said- Damn. I’ve been there so many times and I’ve never seen it like that.
I started with photography in 2002- but I was almost impressively bad with the numbers. F-stops, aperture, focal lengths, light meters- it all ripped my brain apart. I loved composition, documenting a moment that would never happen again, and a device that allowed me to show what the world looks like to me. Being a photo-journalist was the absolute dream- My teacher said I had the eye but not the math and the math was everything. I trashed my portfolio and declined a scholarship offer to SCAD.
