Now I understand why no one could really describe what climbing outside feels like. It is a sensory experience on fire. Supporting your body with your hands on a naturally formed rock face from above the trees while relying on a rope and a friend at the bottom to save your life if you fall involves a lot of complicated feelings. My chest exploded with hard mix of pride and gratitude every time I reached a good hold and lifted a little higher. I can’t compare it to anything I’ve ever done.
However, it is obviously absurdly dangerous. It has terrifying moments. It requires perfect safety. You will slip, fall and struggle. You HAVE to be obsessively attentive. I cannot stress the importance of professional guides enough. We hired our friends mackefitness and they, without question, kept us alive during this adventure.
