Hi furiends! Tour Guide Sully here with an interesting fact! Back in the olden days, people would get buried alive by mistake. This was, sadly, a common occurrence. There was many a victim who died after being buried, with evidence in their coffins of their struggle to get out. Around this time, someone came up with the idea of having a bell that the person could ring if it turned out that they were not actually dead. The premise was this - a bell was placed above ground next to the grave, with a string leading down into coffin. This was tied off to the person's hand or finger, with the idea that if they awoke, their movement would trigger the bell to ring. This was a good idea in theory, however, it didn't always work the way it was intended. Windy days caused bells to ring and cemetery workers had to rush around to see if someone needed to be rescued. Others had the string and bell covered by a pipe to avoid such mistakes. Now, take a peek at the impressive grave site behind me! ...
