Can we harness the power of soil to help us fight climate change? We know that techniques that improve soil health can help farmers build resilience to extreme weather, like severe droughts and flooding. Plus, they can reduce soil erosion and nutrient loss and increase biodiversity. But there’s still much we don’t know about soil. Most scientists agree that soil can absorb carbon dioxide from the air and store it under certain conditions, but there is less understanding of the complex processes involved in capturing carbon or releasing it when activities disrupt the soil.
