Today is the UN's #WorldArabicLanguageDay! Spoken by nearly 300 million people worldwide, it is one of the most widely used languages on the planet. Arabic has a huge variety of dialects—some of which are so different they are mutually unintelligible. The UN has been celebrating this day since 2012. It marks the anniversary of the adoption of Arabic as the sixth official language of the organization (1973).
