Miyajima is a 400 year-old Bonsai Tree passed down from person to person in the Yamaki family. The tree tells us of its journey from seedling in the mountainous island of Japan, to mini bonsai living in the city of Hiroshima, to a historic treasure living at the National Arboretum in Washington. The Tree survives the atomic bomb in 1945 and to his owner that meant something. He gave the tree as a symbol of
#peace between our two nations, as a gift to our country on its 200th anniversary. You can go and see it today! This book is a great lesson on forgiveness. It must have taken great courage for the trees last owner to part with his beloved family member - the "Yamaki pine."
