At the end of winter during my junior year of college I decided to quit competing in snowboarding. In a matter of a few short months I had injured my back, my hip, and gotten my third helmet-cracking concussion in 4 years… add that to the multiple rib breaks and arm/wrist breaks I’d gotten over the seasons and it was evident to me that, at the ripe age of 21, it was time to move on. Honestly, I was really mad at snowboarding for a while… I didn’t know who I was without in, and in an effort to try to figure that out I quit snowboarding for four years. I skied for 2 of the years and then took two winters totally off- opting for sunshine in Australia and Asia. It wasn’t until I moved back to Colorado, the place where I had fallen in love with snowboarding in the first place, that I started to redefine my relationship with the sport.
