Established in 1933, UT’s mcdonald_observatory welcomes as many as 130,000 visitors to West Texas every year and gives researchers and the public a window to the universe.
“The photo is a composite of two separate exposures taken at different times.” photographer kedar.halbe says. “The foreground, with the Otto Struve and Harlan J. Smith telescopes, was shot during a star party. The sky was shot early the next morning, from the Davis Mountains State Park after the Milky Way rose above the horizon.”
