We’re excited to continue sharing stories of hope and encouragement from our patients in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day (June 2). Here below is what breast cancer survivor Michelle S. has to say. To read more of her story and learn about cancer care at MedStar Health, please visit the link in our bio.
“Like most women, I had my first mammogram when I turned 40. It was normal. But about nine months later, I noticed an indentation in my right breast, which was still there after four weeks. So, I made an appointment for a diagnostic mammogram and sonogram, which led to a PET scan and breast biopsy.
“I soon learned I had stage 2 triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive type of the disease. I had 16 rounds of chemotherapy, then a double mastectomy at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. I am now cancer-free and very grateful. If something seems out of the ordinary, trust your gut.”
