After more than three years of legal back-and-forth between the UC Board of Regents and park advocates Make UC A Good Neighbor and People’s Park Historic District Advocacy Group, the California Supreme Court unanimously decided to reverse a previous court decision that halted construction on the park in an opinion published this morning. The court declined park advocates’ claims that the Environmental Impact Report for residential project plans on People’s Park did not evaluate potential noise impacts from student housing or sufficiently consider alternate sites of construction before moving forward with construction on the site. Campus spokesperson Kyle Gibson noted that campus will be resuming its construction timeline “now that all legal challenges have been resolved by the California Supreme Court.” In the coming weeks, the project’s website will be updated with construction updates.
