Believe it or not, police officers work in this centre, but this isn’t a police station. By July 2024, Victoria will be home to eight Multidisciplinary Centres (or MDCs) designed to provide trauma-informed, victim-centred and coordinated responses for victim-survivors of sexual offences, including child sexual abuse. MDCs house a range of agencies and services from child protection practitioners, sexual assault counsellor advocates, community health nurses and specialist detectives. These buildings are intentionally located away from police stations and provide a safe, welcoming, confidential space for victim survivors. Next month, Victoria Police and partnering agencies look forward to officially opening our eighth MDC in Shepparton.
