The sprawling, Spanish colonial-style structure at 700 Southwest Blvd. has been home to several businesses over the past few decades.
It was most recently Casa Grande, a Latin nightclub. Before that it was Jared Allen’s Sports Arena & Grill, a short-lived venture from the former Chiefs defensive end, and Café Sevilla, a tapas joint and wine bar. Old-timers might recall it as the home of California Taqueria, a popular Mexican destination in the ‘90s.
The building has sat vacant for several years. But now, it’s the home of Privee Restaurant and Lounge, which hosted its grand opening last Friday.
“We’re a fine-dining establishment, like 801 Chophouse or Capital Grille, with a high-end lounge, like Mercury Room or Monarch Bar,” said Timothy Harris, who owns the bar with partner Marcus Easy. “All in one building. You see that in other cities, but Kansas City doesn’t really have this. So, that’s what we’re aiming for here.”
