Every so often, The Star’s Lisa Gutierrez finds her mouth watering for carnitas at Dos Reales Authentic Mexican Restaurant, off Antioch Road in Overland Park.
She loves those chunks of seasoned pork slowly cooked according to a “secret recipe,” as the menu teases.
In Spanish, carnitas means “little meats.” But that’s a misnomer here because the hunks of braised meat served on colorful platters with beans, rice and warm, hand-sized tortillas are hefty.
The Carnitas Dinner ($16) is a specialty of dosrealesmexican. The owner, Alvaro Quezada, not only revealed some of his secret ingredients, but shared some tips on how to eat those carnitas.
