A lawyer who represented a local paramedic’s family in a lawsuit against the city says officials covered up their own findings that the woman was discriminated against for a disability and harassed by a supervisor before she died. The paramedic had complained that she was bullied by her supervisor at the Kansas City Fire Department after changing jobs to deal with PTSD from responding to the scene of a violent death. Her lawyer said city officials also had a fitness for duty report changed to make it more difficult for the paramedic to return to her job after she had been placed on leave. The paramedic’s family, who continued the case after her death, won the lawsuit last week in Jackson County Circuit Court. The $100,000 from the verdict will go to Vittori’s two children.
