We spent a few hours at the Aida refugee camp and Alrowwad (Pioneers for Life) for Culture and arTs (ACTs), where we heard stories of Palestinian prisoners, administrative detention, and the crime of simply being Palestinian — no matter age, religion, or gender. So many stories of people's torture, killing, and trauma were difficult to hear, and I can't imagine what it means to have to keep putting your trauma on display.
As we left, we were invited in to watch the Dabke dance rehearsal. As we have been told over and over again, while there is certainly disappointment in the response and abandonment by the world during this time, joy still lives, and hope is not lost. As one of the first delegations to come to the camp since October 7th, I genuinely believe that mutual uplifting occurred and hope was indeed shared.
