Honor is one of those words that I never really use. I often joke with folks about bringing “honor” or “dishonor” upon your family, but really it’s a word that does not get used much these days.
Too often it seems as if honor is substituted for worship, lifting up people, professions, and patriotism to the point of idolatry. As I think more about “honor,” instead, I see it as a way to be and do as God hopes us to be and do in the world. Being honorable in the world means that we understand that we are to recognize that we are moving through God’s creation, not ours. Being honorable towards God’s creation means recognizing and embracing the created-ness that God has instilled in each of us.
