With All Saints Day, Día de los Muertos, and other markers of remembrance of saints and ancestors who have gone on before us, this week's Weekly Word is dedicated to them.
If you find yourself in places where you will say or remember the stories of those who have shaped and formed you, join me in giving thanks for those who have come before, known and unknown: who have created space, paved roads, busted down doors, broken glass ceilings, and bore the weight of preparing the way for the stories of future generation to be revealed.
Ancestors
For the saints who tilled the soil of faith
For the ancestors who planted seeds of justice
For generations past who harvested food for generations to follow
We remember you.
Let us not romanticize the struggles you endured
but let your perseverance fuel our quests for justice.
Let us not repeat the persecution you bore
but let us extend welcome to those who seek liberation.
Let us not forget the communities who shaped us
and let us remember ...
