To avoid me throwing my twitter machine against the wall more than necessary, whenever I see the phrase "the church" in a hot take, I always translate it as, "the church only as I've known it from my social, cultural, and theological location, experience, and social media feed" While it is important to make bold statements, I'm always frustrated by ones that talk about "the church" in very specific ways, but are offered as generalizations.
