If you are a pastor who has been told to ignore naysayers and are torn because you know there may be pain being expressed, you are not alone. You are not called to let yourself be abused and not every voice is helpful, but your instinct to value each human is holy and beautiful. I have always had a problem with the idea that the default response to negative folks is often dismissal. This advice often comes from other members, which I suspect lasts just as long as they do not find they themselves dismissed. Pastoral ministry is a dance, a dance with your instincts and the movement of others. Yes, sometimes you need to leave the dance floor and at other times you may need to ask another to do likewise. That said, the dance with God is for everyone and our calling to DJ that space is not for the faint hearted. Hang in there my friends. You are loved.
