“I want to write my own story,” Danny says. His dad and brother, both named Derek, played lacrosse at Syracuse and his other brother, Dylan, also played for the Terps. (And if you’re wondering, yes, the “D” names are intentional.) So it’s understandable why Danny wants to forge his own path. In doing so, he still pays homage to his family every time he steps on the field. “My dad introduced me to the game. That’s why every time I play, I play for him.” The Terps’ slogan, “Be the best” really resonates with Danny and he embodies it through his actions, always striving to be his best self on and off the field. As for what’s next, lacrosse will always be a part of his life—he’ll always be teaching and giving back to the sport. Lastly, in the words of Danny Maltz, “Block out the haters. Keep working. Keep grinding.” #BehindTheMask
