Happy birthday Mount Rainier National Park! On this day in 1899, one of the most beautiful and dangerous national parks was born. Physical evidence of human habitation in the area dates back up to 6000 years, but it is likely that humans hunted in the area 9000 years ago.⁠ •⁠ Like Denali, Mount Rainier (Tacoma) rises from almost sea level, which makes it seem even more massive. The tallest peak in the contiguous United States, Rainier/Tacoma is a giant active stratovolcano.
