Anti-government protests have taken place in Zahedan in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province of southeastern Iran every Friday for the past four months, despite the deadly crackdowns by security forces.
On September 30, 2022, security forces heavily cracked down on protesters using unlawful lethal force. Dozens of protesters were killed in a massacre referred to as “Bloody Friday.”
Despite the bloody crackdowns, people in Zahedan, a city home to the ethnic Baluch minority, continue to protest after Friday Prayers every week.
