Look at this man's face. Pain. Anguish. Exasperation. This man's face is a glimpse into how black people in the USA must feel right now. He put so much energy and passion into the chants that I was genuinely worried he might have a heat stroke. He wanted - NEEDED - his voice to be heard. Every car honked in support. Traffic was fully interrupted, and I did not see a single vehicle/person get mad about it (for Miami that's really saying something). Everyone seemed to understand this was much bigger than being 10, 15, 30 minutes late. The police, notably not in riot gear, watched and followed as the protest moved through the streets. I cannot speak to what occurred after 5 PM, as that's around when I left. However, up to that point, they allowed the people to express themselves. Mayor Suarez waited outside the MDPD to listen to protesters and hand out waters. Was his handling of the situation perfect, no. Do I think he deserves some credit, yes. Just as I think people need to acknowledge...
