The toxic
#RedTide algal bloom has plagued Florida's west coast for almost a year and has finally made it's way to the Atlantic side (meaning no more good times in the water with friends for now π). More importantly, thousands of marine animals - fish, dolphins, manatees, sea turtles - are washing up dead on the beach β π π¬π’π¦β This "red tide" is not a new phenomenon, but it has been exacerbated by sugar and dairy farming in central Florida.
#LakeOkechobee is also suffering a massive, months-long blue-green algae bloom resulting from high levels of agricultural runoff. While
#BigSugar is not the cause of these blooms, it is a MAJOR player in the severity of the situation. As tends to be the case in the US, USsugarFla has been pumping money into politicians to get their way for quite some time (shoutout to legal corruption!). All that being said, GO VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6TH DAMMIT π€¬ If you want to learn more about the blooms, check the link in my bio
