Mary Slaney (née Decker) is the only athlete to have held every American record from the 800m to the 10,000m. At the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki, she won both the 1500m and 3000m, which became known as the "Decker Double." She took 8th and 10th, respectively, in those same two races at the 1988 Olympics and took gold in the 1500m at the 1979 Pan American Games. She is a winner of the James E. Sullivan Award, given to one top US athlete each year, and the Jesse Owens Award. She set 36 national records and 17 world records (both official and unofficial) before retiring from running in 1999. She now lives in Eugene, OR and has taken up ElliptiGO racing, in which she won the 2013 World Championships.
