Hey Y’all! Today was an awesome learning experience. So one of the gentleman helping us with the project was teaching us more about the tusk tenon joinery I have been talking about. The summer beams in the Hall and Parlor used tusk tenoned joinery to attach the two beams into the end and chimney girts. What’s such a cool find/discovery from today, is they are exactly the same as the Gedney House in Salem Mass. The first pic is from Historic New England and the second is a great diagram from Abbott Lowell Cummings book “The Framed Houses of Massachusetts Bay, 1625-1725.” What is so fascinating is the Gedney house is confirmed to be circa 1665! The summer beams in our house were dated circa 1692-1693 as some of you may know....
