We learnt something terrible about the fate of polar bears when we were on Barter Island. - The locals explained that every year the ice recedes earlier and returns later, trapping the polar bears on land during the summer without being able to hunt for food. The nanook (polar bears) hunt seals and to do so they need to be on ice. - We heard stories of polar bears rummaging through trash cans desperately seeking food. It was heartbreaking to hear that our changing climate was having such a devastating affect on the wildlife up here in the arctic. - More on this story in our latest video - #savethepolarbears
