Among approximately 61,000 UC graduates this year across UC campuses, transfer students from California community colleges made up nearly a third of the class of 2024, according to the university. However, despite ongoing UC Berkeley efforts to uplift transfer students, some continue to face barriers to success. Transfer students make up more than one-fifth of campus’ undergraduate student body and graduate at comparable rates to four-year students who enter freshman year. However, university data on student basic needs suggests that transfer students experience higher rates of food insecurity and anxiety about paying for housing compared to four-year students.
