To educate the public on the importance of getting an annual flu shot and on vaccination safety, MedStar Visiting Nurse Association administered nearly 60 vaccines to participants and attendees at the 2019 National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (nfid_vaccines) Influenza/Pneumococcal News Conference on Thursday, Sept. 26. U.S. Secretary of Health Alex Azar received his annual flu vaccine from MedStar VNA’s B.K. Morris. Speakers, including Dr. William D. Borden, associate professor of medicine and health policy at George Washington University, spoke to attendees about how getting a flu vaccine could significantly lower the risk of respiratory and cardiac complications in the winter months. “A hesitancy to vaccinate is one of the top 10 threats to health in 2019,” said Dr. William Schaffner, NFID medical director.
