Heather decides to rise by contributing to change she wants to see on UF's campus. “Preeminence happens when we bridge the gaps on UF’s campus. As a comprehensive ambassador to my university, I make an intentional effort to do life with students who differ from me in area of study, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and perspective. I learn from their student experiences by attending organizational welcome assemblies, asking questions, supporting their events, enrolling in social justice classes outside my degree audit, and immersing myself in what matters to them. This individual approach over the past three years has challenged me to advocate for marginalized communities on campus and give voice to students who are overlooked. I see this come to life with the conversations and first impressions I make with underrepresented students and their family members during campus tours.
