Oooh what I wish I could tell my little baby self. This was taken right after my amputation at 18 months old. See that babydoll? My parents cut the legs off and wrapped them with casts for me so we’d match when I came out of surgery😭
I would tell baby Jess that she’s so beyond brave and that it’s okay to be scared.
As she grows and finds herself back in several different hospital beds, I’d tell her she’s going to make it in this world and surprise everyone, but mostly herself.
That one day the question “why me?” would be replaced with, “why not me?” as she breaks barriers and achieves her dreams.
That it’s a process to love yourself. It won’t happen overnight. There will be shame when you notice people staring while you wear shorts, but eventually you will show your legs to the world.
I would tell her not to ever be embarrassed about anything that makes her unique, because that is her power.
Lastly, I’d tell her that I am so proud of her 😭
