An outbreak of salmonella infections has been linked to pet bearded dragons, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning.
Fifteen reported cases in nine states, not including Oregon, have mostly afflicted children under 5. Bearded dragons are not recommended as pets for young kids, older adults and people with compromised immune systems, the CDC said, because they are more likely to become seriously ill from the reptile’s germs.
