Congratulations to Alicia’s fellow alum, Cheetie Kumar, musician, chef, and owner of Garlands, Neptune’s Parlour, and Kings in vibrant Raleigh, NC. Her very lucky Ginger-Braised Collards recipe appears with Alicia’s Perfect Vanilla Cake in the new Beard Foundation cookbook. How lucky are these collards, you ask? When Cheetie moved to North Carolina, she was taken with the Southern tradition of eating black-eyed peas and rice, often with stewed greens, to symbolize and usher in luck and money for the new year. Her own interpretation of the tradition represents her home in the South and the flavors from her mother’s Indian kitchen. We think her lucky theme pairs beautifully with today’s Irish holiday, too! Because we believe in women supporting women, we are showcasing each talented women chef with a recipe included in the new James Beard Foundation cookbook, A Place at the Table, which features signature recipes from 20 honored alums of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program....
