In fact, it was Jim who almost single handedly put 5.13 on the map up here. Not only did he itinerantly climb these brutal, incredibly technical routes, he also established most of them. The Cacodemon Caves below the Chief were a favourite haunt of Jim’s, where he crafted such fine classics as Permanent Waves (13c), Archives (12d), Technical Ecstasy (13b), Youngblood (13b), and Bravado (13d). When it came to hard sport climbing Jim had few equals, although it was his wife Jola who most often came close, and she was likely the strongest female climber in Canada at the time.
