Today our caplin.news students in Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media had the opportunity to speak with Sean Spicer, former White House Press Secretary under the President Trump administration, and Johanna Maska, former White House Director of Press Advance under the President Obama administration. They were able to attend FIU’s “A Fair and Free Press: A Debate on the Role of Media in 2024 Politics” where Spicer and Maska highlighted the media landscape for this election season, how network news and social media impact political polarization, and the role of journalists and media professionals; all moderated by William Shepard - six-time Emmy award winning journalist and former NBC6 Miami news anchor. Our Caplin News students got the chance to ask Spicer and Maska questions about their careers as well as have discussions about media in politics.
