Japan is hosting this year's G7 summit, and we're on the ground to ensure that our voices are heard by the politicians to protect the climate. This past weekend, environmental and energy ministers discussed energy and climate. While the good news is that they plan to expand renewable energy by 2030, the agreements are too weak to save us from the worst climate disasters. ๐Ÿ”ฅThe current commitment to phase out fossil fuels lacks a date for coal. The commitment must also be strengthened and matched by action. G7 leaders must declare an end to all new fossil fuel developments. Another major failure is that they did not agree to phase out 50% of fossil fuel cars by 2035, a proposal that is already too late to save our climate.
