Creeper, Download Festival 2024 REVIEW: There’s a moment, just a slight one, where Will Gould lets his vampiric gaze soften during Creeper’s monumental set on the Apex stage. It’s at the end of ‘Sacred Blasphemy’, a full-blooded rendition that showcases the band’s current fantastical era at its most sensational and savage, where a smile slowly creeps across his rouge-stained lips. It’s a flicker of humanity within the undead pageantry the band have bolstered this occasion with, hitting all of the iconic troupes that everyone who plays Download should endeavour to hit. There are drum solos, catwalk struts and Freddie Mercury levels of crowd control, delivered with sharp sass and legendary wit. But it’s in that split second where Will lets the life trickle back into his veins and the weight of what they are doing sink in that it’s evident what this means to these children of the night. It’s a smile that says, “We’ve made it”, and it couldn’t be more deserved. ✏️ Jack Rogers 📷 Carla M...
