The Diamond Heels couldn’t muster enough offense to stay with No. 1 Tennessee in the Men’s College World Series in Omaha on Sunday night, as the Volunteers beat Carolina 6-1. Vance Honeycutt gave UNC its only run with a solo shot in the sixth inning, but it only came after Tennessee had built a 4-0 lead on two home runs. The tournament’s top seed added a run in the bottom of the inning to answer Honeycutt’s blast and another in the eighth to pad the lead. With the loss, Carolina will now face No. 8 Florida State in an elimination game on Tuesday. The winner of that game will then have to beat the Volunteers twice to advance to the Men’s College World Series finals.
