#LostBirds πŸ‘€ The Santa Marta Sabrewing hadn't had a documented sighting since 2010, but since it unexpectedly hovered back into researchers' binoculars in 2022, they have made sure not to lose sight of this colorful species again. A team has been working with local indigenous communities, and found a population of hummingbirds in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a mountain range in Colombia. Re:wild partners selvaorgco, unaloficial, procatcolombia, americanbirdconservancy and world_parrot_trust have released new findings about the geographic distribution, local abundance, behavior and ecology of this mysterious hummingbird. They are also working with local and Indigenous communities to design effective conservation strategies for the species. Learn more: link in bio!
