Sea Otters: fighting the climate crisis with their appetites 🦦 These charismatic creatures play a pivotal role in keeping kelp forests healthy. Coastal ecosystems with marine plants like kelp can sequester up to 20x more carbon per hectare than forests. But sea urchins can devour kelp forests, unless predators like Sea Otters keep them in check with their voracious appetites. Sea Otters are Endangered due to historical hunting, pollution, and habitat destruction. We need them—as well as the rest of Earth’s biodiversity to make progress on solving climate change.
