One of the largest frogs in the world is on the brink. Growing nearly as big as a guinea pig, only 21 Mountain Chicken Frogs have been found on the Caribbean island of Dominica. In a recent month-long survey supported by Re:wild and our partners, including local non-profit conservation organization WildDominique, conservationists collected samples from the few remaining Mountain Chicken Frogs. This Critically Endangered species' population has crashed in recent years largely from chytridiomycosis, a fungal disease, and the effects of climate change, causing hurricanes, floods and wildfires across the Caribbean. 80% of Dominica's Mountain Chicken Frog population has disappeared.
